Ashen Testament is a first-person action roguelite with pixel-art visuals. Players guide successive Bearers carrying a living book toward the Black Gate, following branching paths and fighting with melee and ranged weapons. Each death introduces a Decree that changes the rules of the next run, while a new Bearer inherits the journey. Reaching the Black Gate allows a Bearer to become the ruler, creating an opponent for a future successor. The game features weapon combinations, rival factions, boss encounters, and choices that affect subsequent runs.
